A voluntary, multi-disciplinary guild comprising the seven Built Environment Professional Bodies, working collaboratively to strengthen construction safety, uphold professional standards, and prevent building collapse across Nigeria.
The Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG) was established in 2011 in response to the frequent incidence of building collapses in Nigeria. It was founded to restore discipline, professionalism, and safety in the construction sector, with the primary goal of preventing the loss of lives and property that had become increasingly prevalent.
BCPG is an independent, voluntary, multi-disciplinary guild comprising the seven Built Environment Professional Bodies in Nigeria. Its activities complement government initiatives by promoting adherence to construction standards, professional best practices, and ethical compliance. The Guild represents a historic collaborative platform, uniting these professional bodies to deliver proactive, coordinated, and inclusive solutions to the challenge of building collapse nationwide.
To safeguard lives and properties in Nigeria by promoting strict adherence to building codes, ethical engineering practices, and construction quality standards. We operate on the philosophy that "Prevention is better than cure," ensuring every building has a health record from design to demolition.
Why We Exist: Building collapse is often a result of compromise—whether in materials, design, or supervision. BCPG exists to eliminate these compromises by fostering a culture of integrity and whistleblowing.
BCPG operates through grassroots "Cells" located in every Local Council Development Area (LCDA). These cells act as neighborhood watchdogs, identifying "sick buildings," reporting contraventions, and eliminating quackery at the community level. Each cell comprises professionals who monitor their immediate vicinity.
We are a coalition of the seven statutory professional bodies in the built environment:
How we prevent collapse and promote standards.
Grassroots building surveillance
Eliminating non-professionals
Tracking building lifecycles
Skills acquisition & workshops
Report "sick buildings" safely

Our Nationwide Chapters and Cells act as neighborhood watchdogs. Members monitor construction sites in their vicinity, identifying contraventions and reporting them to the BCPG Engine Room for action.
We fight against the use of non-professionals. Ensure your project is handled by registered Architects, Engineers, Builders, and Surveyors.
Just like humans, buildings need a health record. We advocate for a "Life Statistic" for every building, tracking it from design approval to demolition.
We organize workshops to upskill artisans (bricklayers, welders, iron benders) to ensure they understand the importance of quality workmanship.
See something unsafe? Report it anonymously. Your report goes directly to our "Engine Room" and is escalated to relevant government agencies.
Don't be a victim of quackery. Use our directory to verify that your consultant is a registered and financial member of their professional body.
