Dear Colleagues, Stakeholders, and Fellow Nigerians,

It is my distinct honour and privilege to welcome you to the official website of the Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG) Nigeria.

I extend this welcome not just as the President of this Guild, but as a fellow professional who is deeply troubled by the unacceptable frequency of building failures in our nation. For too long, we have witnessed the tragic loss of lives, the squandering of hard-earned resources, and the desecration of our urban and rural landscapes due to structural collapses that are, in almost every instance, preventable.

It was in response to this national embarrassment and tragedy that the Building Collapse Prevention Guild was founded. We are a multidisciplinary body of built environment professionals—including Architects, Engineers, Town Planners, Builders, Land Surveyors, Estate Surveyors & Valuers, and Quantity Surveyors—united by a single, crucial mandate: to eradicate the menace of building collapses in Nigeria.

Our vision is clear: to prevent, or at best reduce to a rare occurrence, incidents of building collapse in Nigeria, and to promote the sustainability of buildings for long-term social and economic benefits. The BCPG was established to write a new chapter in our nation's building history—one defined not by tragedy and loss, but by durability, safety, pride for tourism, and zero collapse. We are a multidisciplinary coalition of professionals who believe that excellence is not an accident; it is the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution.

This website is a testament to that belief. It is more than a repository of information; it is a launchpad for a new standard of practice in the built industry. Here, we will:

• Advocate for the strict enforcement of the National Building Code.
• Educate the next generation of professionals on the sanctity of their oath.
• Collaborate across disciplines to ensure no detail is overlooked.

We are here to move beyond mere rhetoric and complaints. We are committed to a proactive, solution-driven approach that upholds the highest standards of practice, promotes ethical conduct, and ensures strict compliance with the National Building Code and all relevant regulations.

• Whistleblower Platform: A confidential channel to report suspected substandard practices or defective work. Remember, silence is complicity.
• Public Awareness: Educational content to empower clients, developers, and the general public to ask the right questions and demand quality.
• Professional Directory: A database of vetted and registered professionals committed to the Guild's code of conduct.
• Government Building Regulatory Agencies: Links to all the relevant government building, urban, and physical planning regulatory (authorities) agencies, including emergency management agencies.

Building collapse is not an act of God; it is a failure of man. It is a failure of design, a failure of materials, a failure of supervision, or a failure of regulation—and sometimes, a failure of all four. As professionals, we must take ownership of this problem. We must be the guardians of our skylines and the sentinels of safety for our people.

To the general public, we say this: you have a right to demand a safe structure. You have a role to play in ensuring that the professionals you hire are qualified and registered. Do not cut corners. Do not seek cheap alternatives that could cost lives.

Together, we can rewrite the narrative. Together, we can build a Nigeria where our structures stand as enduring testaments to our competence, our integrity, and our respect for human life.
